TBCU?

Hi All, I have what is hopefully an easy question. In reading documentation on test access in DLC environments I've run across the term "test bus control unit" or TBCU. Can anyone describe what a TBCU is, what architectures its used in and how it's used?

Thanks!

The TBCU consists of a single mounting shelf which houses a SM499 power supply and one to fifteen SM500 circuit packs. The SM499 circuit pack provides the -48, +48 and 60IPM to the SM500 packs. It also provides a power monitor scan point connection for the central office alarm in case of a power failure.

The TBCU is normally mounted in a Miscellaneous Cabinet and requires a single power feeder. The TBCU is required for metallic connections with Integrated SLC® 96 Carrier Remote Terminal. TBCU provides the diode termination required by the Modular Metallic Service Unit when the Metallic Test Bus (MTB) is idle. In addition, this unit provides the SLC 96 Carrier channel test results and allows the Metallic Test Pair (MTP) to be shared between Integrated and Universal SLC

96 Carrier systems. The TBCU also provides Mechanized Loop Testing (MLT) compatibility.
