yimg.com is owned by Yahoo.
If you have something from Yahoo running on your iPad, it's a likely candidate. My guess(tm) is it was push mail, or push messaging from Yahoo apps:
Turn off notifications from whatever Yahoo app is installed and see if it goes away.
