Upgrade Linksys from BEFSR41 to WRT54G

Feb 04, 2006 1 Replies

I am trying to upgrade my Linksys router from the BEFSR41 to the WRT54G. I have a WAP11 already attached to the BEFSR41. I am able to connect to the internet thru the BEFSR41. When I disconnect the wiring, and atach the cables to the new WRT54G the Power Light Blinks and I can not get the computer to recognize the new Router thru the Set-up software that it comes with.

Am I missing a basic step here?

Any help would be appreciated.

I made the same change a year ago. Power down the computer, router and modem, in that order. Wait 30 seconds or more. Power on the modem and wait for the lights to settle down. Do the same with the router. Then turn on the computer. Ignore the setup software - it just complicates things.

If on cable, set for DHCP, if on DSL, use PPPoE and insert username and password. MTU for cable is 1500 and 1492 for DSL
