A weird moment today... Linksys WAP11's signal fell to very low or non-existence even with a PowerBook G4 close to it (over a foot). I tried rebooting (powering off and on) and that didn't work. I even tried various wireless devices and locations (tried downstair and in the same room close to it), and they all got weak and non-existence signals.

I moved the WAP to a table on the left and below of the TV/television (about a foot away). And I had no problems (maximum signal).

Any ideas on what is going on? I never had this problem with the last two years of usage on top of this TV (on and off). I don't know if this makes any differences: The TV uses the odl fashion rabbit ear antennae.

Thank you in advance. :)

So, electrostatic fields? Hmmm, wouldn't this happened before today within the two years os usage?

True. If there was a problem from some type of magnetic, electric, or psychic field, it would have appeared long ago. However, that presumes that the TV is operating normally and has not developed some kind problem. A crack in the ferrite core of the flyback drastically increases its radiated field. Same with a shorted turn which detunes it from resonance. There could also be some internal arcing, which would act like a spark gap transmitter and might have harmonics up to

2.4Ghz. There could also be some clock oscillator that is drifting (or ageing) in frequency and just landed on your favorite Wi-Fi frequency, or is mixing (i.e. intermod) with a Wi-Fi signal from another channel to land on your receive frequency. Well, maybe not, as you noted that it was a deterioration in transmit signal from the WAP11, not receive. That would need to be something induced into the WAP11 circuitry which limits the possible causes to magnetic, electric, or psychic induction.

There's a simple test for an electrostatic field. Put the back of your hand against the front of the tube. Do the hairs on your hand stand up? Do you hear a slight crackle? If so, you have a leaky electrostatic field. The monitor in front of me (iiYama Vision Master Pro 17) does not have that problem but most every other cheap monitor I've seen does.

My cat can also discern the difference. He will not sit on a monitor that has a leaky electrostatic field. He won't sit on the TV or other monitors I've dragged in at times. The field makes his fur stand up and he doesn't like that.

I don't have a good test for a magnetic field. A coil tuned to

15.75KHz (horizontal sweep rate) or to 50/60Hz, connected to a digital volts guesser, would be sufficient, though not calibrated. If you can locate the flyback or power transformers in your Sharp TV, the field should be worst in their vicinity. If you have a DVM and want construction details, I can try to design one. It's rather simple. You can buy commercial 50/60Hz AC Gauss meters:

few will work at 15.75KHz.

The psychic field interference is also a possibility. Perhaps your TV is jealous of all the time you're spending online and wants to destroy the competitive devices. You might try to appease it by watching more TV.

Too bad I don't have hair on my hand/chest. :) I could use my head but then I wouldn't be able to see hair move. Does this hand method work with TV off too? Remember, the TV was off for hours (12+) and unplugged.

LOL! I would love to see a cat with fur stand up! :) No pets in here.

Hahahahah! Hey, the last time I used the TV was Friday night/Saturday early morning hours. Darn TV!

So far, it is stable now after putting the WAP back last night. Weird. Maybe it was a rare random hiccup. I will keep my eyes on it if it happens again.
