I want to create a home wireless network, newbie questions

So I just now subscribed to dsl through Verizon, they've provided me with a Westell 327W which is connected to one of my desktops. Now I want to add another desktop to the network. what equipment do you recomend I get? Verizon recomends Westell 802.11g wireless USB Adapter. Is this really the best equipment to get? Will a wireless USB adapter made by another company be compatable with my Westell 327W?

Any wireless adapter will work with any other wireless kit, provided they're both WiFi certified.
