Combining 802.11 B + G on same SSID?

Can one mix 802.11 B and G access points in the same network? I have an older (WaveLAN WavePOINT II) 802.11 B access point that I've just replaced with a Linksys 802.11G box. I'd like to use the WavePOINT II to extend the range of the wireless network. Are there any problems with this setup?

It may reduce all the traffic to "B" speeds, I know that is what happens with individual routers when both "B" and "G" clients connect at the same time.
