Difference between SIM card and SMART card

Hello,

I'm looking for the difference between a smart card and a sim card. Indeed I've found a component to be interfaced with a smart card and I want to know if it also works for SIM card.

Can you define "Smart Card"? There are many different smart cards in use, I carry one to pay for commuting fares, another that unlocks doors. and still another that allows me access to my banking accounts. There is only one SIM card, that is the tightly defined device that fits into a telephone.
