Verizon switching building remade into data center [telecom]

The NY Times reported that a former Verizon (NY Telephone Co.) switching center is being remade into a secured data center where companies can place their servers. "There will be uninterrupted power, cooling and security. The first phase, now nearing completion, has the capacity to handle 5.4 megawatts of electrical demand; up to



40 megawatts of demand" The building's floors can handle much heavier loads and there is space for ductwork. Vz still uses three floors.
