Verizon not completely deregulated, says Public Utility Commission [telecom]

Letters to the Editor

In response to Mr. Richard Boger's March 4 letter to the editor, we want to clarify the Public Utility Commission's (PUC) action making basic telephone service competitive in certain areas in Verizon's service territory does not equate to complete "deregulation" of Verizon's landline service in those areas.

Our decision does not impact basic telephone service provided in most areas in Verizon's service territory, including the territory in which Mr. Boger lives. And, in the areas determined to be competitive, the Commission will continue to regulate numerous aspects of Verizon's wireline service and will maintain many existing consumer protections.
