BOISE - Two days after Gov. Butch Otter approved the Legislature's $3.64 million short-term broadband bailout for state schools on Feb. 25, the Department of Administration crafted its own bailout by declaring an emergency.
After a court on Feb. 11 declared the state's Idaho Education Network contract with CenturyLink and ENA Services illegal and void, schools across the state and some state agencies faced losing service.
Lawmakers took action to help protect schools' networks, but did not address the Department of Administration's potential loss of broadband.
