New magnet to control Dirac fermions [telecom] open original image

On the principle that anything new related to semiconductors is, sooner or later, of interest to telecom, I offer this link to recent work on achieving a bulk half-integer Quantum Hall effect:

"Researchers from Osaka University and the University of Tokyo have announced the discovery of a new magnet, which is capable of controlling Dirac fermions with zero mass." (Details in the URL.)

The title in quotes is good bait to use on a Google fly-rod for more info.

Fascinating developments. Cheers, -- tlvp
