The law providing free credit reports of all credit reporting companies has been on the books for many year. I remember getting them back in the 80s for free. What is new, is the ability to access them via the internet. I am thinking it was during the Regan administration that the law was passed. At that time, considering there was no internet as it is today you had to request the reports in writing.
