Simon Alarm System - Re-installing

My newsgroup reader does not suppor search, and groups.google wasn't much help.

I've got a Simon 2 system and I want to re-install it, including changing the phone number dialed from the prior service to the police dept which provide the same service - at no charge.

I been searching but unable to find anything besides the general 'how to test' sensors and add access codes.

Any links out there to the install manual?

TIA,

Brian

The Police will show up alright, it will be to arrest you, not a burglar... In most jurisdictions it is illegal to have any type of Automatic dialer call the Police or Fire Department...

Are you sure that the police station is equipped with an alarm station receiver? can they provide you with the protocol they handle?

can they give you a client id number to program in the panel as a way to identify your site?

I really don't think they do...

There are some Police Depts that have receivers and monitor alarms directly, I'm not aware of any that don't charge for the service though.

Some around Dallas still can but it's getting very rare

When I moved in and checked with the Police (after they got called for an accidental alarm) on what I could do they said that I could have the system dial them. I have not gone any futher with the request (because I don't know how to re-program the dial-out number).

The department went digital a few years ago so they may be easily be able to ID the incoming call.

We have one PD that monitors here for their tiny town and they charge more than a private alarmco.

Really unusual. You must live in a tiny town. They'd need a reciever to decode what your alarm is saying as well...are you sure they understood what you were asking?

West University Place, an incorporated area within Houston, has its own monitoring facility at their police station. It has created a lot of problems for the citizens because alarm dealers here don't want to service equipment they don't monitor. And yes, they do charge more than most of the alarm dealers in town. Their claim to fame is that there is no middle man, the alarm comes in directly to the police station. Allan

that's not the way it work..

ID of the caller by the phone number is not reliable

better start by asking a few question first before doing any "tuning" to your alarm system

Yah here too, but with the added restriction that ONLY they can monitor alarms. I'm not sure that same restriction is in effect because I wont do business in that town anymore. We tried to push a restriction of trade suit but our association was a bunch of wimps back then. They had one Radx 6500 and an old 685 in a small room the size of a large restroom, no software just file cards....and they'd yell across the hall to dispatch: Hey Mabel! Jack Smith has a perimeter alarm again send Joe out there on his way to Dunkin Donuts! The really sad part is the homes in that area are mega-million dollar shacks.

They would let us service the crap that someone put in, but not do any of the monitoring. Infact they were incapable of repairing or installing anything, they just wanted the monthly.

You just need to know how to use google. Actually anyone could've got this one in about 3 seconds.

Searched for "simon 2 install manual" (without the quotes) and this was the first hit...
