When prewiring low voltage systems in new construction you need to protect your cables from damage by the drywall hanger's tools. Also, the taping compound (aka "mud") can make a real mess of our wires at times.
While perusing the November, 2005 issue of Security Products magazine I noticed what looks like a partial solution to this problem. On page 12 there's a description of a protective plate called "W.R.A.P.S." that can be used to protect wiring in a J-box or mud ring. It's made by MTM Industries.
