Dual Tech motion detectors with dual relay outputs ?

but they don't necessarily need to be mounted underneath the floor. They have a very wide range of sensitivity settings. I use them on boat alarms and have found them to be very versitile in their placement.

Take a look at the Pulnix PR-5B. I use these also on boat alarms and they last forever. It's surface mount but only protrudes from the wall by about 3/4 of and inch. The range is only about 17 feet but it can be increased a bit by increasing the amount of reflected area. ( ie. using two or more or bigger reflectors) Also, the reflector can be covered by a dark piece of thin plastic (same as the transceiver) to make it less obtrusive. The reflector doesn't have to stay in it's supplied housing either. There's also another unit with a shorter range ..... 3 feet, I think.

Again, I haven't read the thread in great detail (so this may have already been suggested) but there are some CCTV cameras that come with motion detection capability and relay contact output. You'd need two, but mounting and disguising cameras in corners, on shelves, and possibly in normally seen household items might appeal to you also. With cameras, the "hot" areas would be able to be set very precisely. You'd only be using them as "motion" detectors, so you'd only have to hook a monitor ( old TV with a composit video input) to the cameras while setting the hot areas. You'd only need to get power and relay output wires to the cameras back to your "panel" Sorry but I don't remember which mfg has these cameras, but I think it's a readily available option.

Buuuuut .... functioning in complete darkeness would be a problem, come to think of it. Would require some sort of infrared illumination. Oh well............................... I'll leave you with the thought.

By the way, something that I didn't mention and that you may not have picked up on .... is that the Sentrol dual tech sensors that I mentioned earlier, have "range" control adjustment on the microwave. All other microwave units only adjusts sensitivity, which can still detect movement of large objects at a greater distance ( ie through walls, etc). This could be important, depending upon where you have to mount the unit. You can adjust the Sentrol units down to 9 feet max.

The manual for the Bosch DS835i uses the word "range" for the only uWave adjustment provided (via a potentiometer). Maybe that's how they translate Empfindlichkeit (sensitivity) and Verstärkung (amplification) to English (It's them pesky words and definitions again ;-)

What is the difference between "range" and "sensitivity" in the actual physical adjustment being made ?

Sensitivity sdjustment reduces the amount of emmision from the unit. The difference is that this will not stop the unit from detecting larger objects that are futher away then the unit might be set to only detect a man sized moving object. I call it the "elephant effect"

In other words, a sensivity adjusted unit, set to detect a moving man size object at 30 feet, can still detect an elephant ( or a truck or whatever) moving at ..... say 75 or more feet ..... or .... more withing context of your use ....... a larger than man size object at ....say 40 feet. A range controled unit wont detect anything beyond it's setting.

Also, in case you didn't know, most, many, micro wave units cannot be mounted in close proximity to one another. My rule of thumb is, not closer than something more than twice the maximum rated detection range (regardless of it's range or sensitivity setting) if looking at each others field of detection. Back to back mounting can be closer, like a few feet away, but check with the mfg in all cases where you're mounting two microwave units in proximity to one another. Some mfg units CAN be mounted close to one another, but not all.

As you can see, although Bass says it isn't rocket science he lies when he entices people to buy from him with his simplistic enticement to end users, about the ease of installation. This, followed by his well documented inevitable lackluster performace on follow up and service, puts him at the level of huckster and scam artist. His sole purpose here is to sell equipment regardless of the consequences, under the guise of making it appear simple and that he will give you anything that you want. Just beware where you wind up getting your system and parts. Do your homework with parts and service as well as you're doing your implementation search.

None. It's all hype. It is impractical to set the distance that a microwave signal will travel. It is impossible to predetermine how strong the reflected signal will be. It is easy to determine how strong (object size and other traits) a reflected signal and how much of change in frequency from the emitted signal (object speed and direction) will trip the sensor.

Again, you show your ignorance. A range controled detector doesn't control how far the emission travels. It controls what doppler signal to accept and/or ignore.

A range controled detector will not detect movement beyond the setting chosen, regardless of the size of the moving object beyond the set range.

A sensitivity controled detector will detect movement of a larger object beyond the setting you've chosen.

If you'd ever installed both types of units, you'd know this. But, as we all know ..... you only sell equipment and drop ship it, so you don't actually know what it looks like, how to install it or how it works.
