Digital Age Telephone Vs Digital lost

A massive wind storm which saw winds up to 90 mph in Eastern Ohio and Western Pa. and at one point left 100,000 people with out power just in the Pittsburgh area and to make matters worse homes and buisness using T1 ,VOIP,Digital Cable and FIOS all found out the hard way when they lost all phone service after a couple hours and then in some areas when they went to use there cell phones that was no good either . Becuse many cel tower sites have no back up batteries or generator. Mean while grandma and everyone else on POTS was doing just fine welcome to the modern digital age isnt it wonderful when systems are not properly designed and backed up.

Yeah, I'm getting occasional calls from customers on VoIP who are woken up in the middle of the night because the line fault monitor senses when the cable company shuts down the network periodically to do updating or diagnostics.

I don't say "told ya so"............ But they know that I'd like to.

And it's likely a service call to remove the line fault feature cuz you can't always download over VoIP. So they either live with it or .......... they cancel the line fault detection. So now they don't have line seizure or line fault detection .......Modern advancements in Technology ......... really great stuff.

that's why I have stayed on POTS even though I pay a few more $ per month. But even the POTS has been coming down in $ due to competition from the cable and internet phone service. The old tried and true for me. I have been tempted by the deals and new technology but have resisted. Nice to know I was correct in my thinking. This should be a wakeup call for consumers who want reliability and for providers to build in more backup capability into their systems.

Thats exactly why I switched back from cable digital phone (videotron) to land line (bell)

last winter the current got cut 4 time because of snow storm at my home ( the whole city was down) and every time the alarm panel gave me a telephone trouble right away... looks like the back up on the cable system are not good enough..
