Loadbalancer & URL redirect in high performance web environment

Dear ladies and gentlemen,

At this moment we considering the introduction of two dedicated image servers in our web tier. Seen the fact that we have some problems adjusting our CMS and application tier to the new infrastructure (without any major migration) the only remaining option is to introduce an URL redirect on our Alteon LB's (redundant load balancing). Technically it should be possible to redirect *gif content to the image servers (or

and all other traffic to the regular webservers. But how does a hardware LB perform under high load? This new web tier should actually improve the performance of our website

Your comments and suggestions are very much appreciated.

With kind regards,

Fred Janssen
