OT: Cancer

Most here know I have been battling cancer for a couple of years and have been in remission for some time. Well, I've been feeling sick for a while and my GP hasn't been able to help so I revisited my pulmonary specialist about a week and a half ago. He ordered some tests and the results were bad. After more tests my oncologist gave me the prognosis. The cancer has come back with malignant pulmonary effusion and unfortunately, it's incurable. I have somewhere between a few months and a year or so to live. There's a slim chance I may be around two or three years but without a miracle survival isn't possible. Medicine offers only palliative treatment, aimed at improving the quality of life.

I wasn't going to say anything in Usenet because of certain individuals from the "other" newsgroup. However, a fair number of participants and many more lurkers here are clients and friends so I decided to post. For the moment I'm not feeling particularly ill, just short of breath and tired all the time. Friends who've heard the news are shocked since only recently I've been dancing, throwing parties and generally carrying on as usual. Soon I'll undergo surgery and start chemo. That will change everything.

I'd like to thank those who've shared technical knowledge and business ideas with me, as well as those who have been so encouraging during my first bout with cancer. I'll try to stay active in the newsgroup in the coming months as much as my health allows. I'm also continuing my online business as usual, although I've hired help to keep things running while I'm dealing with my illness.

I'd really appreciate if any who believe in prayer would lift my wife and family. This is much harder on them than me. Thanks.
