Can anyone provide some specifics on how Elk interacts with Z-wave from a hands on basis? Is it a primary controller, can it trigger based on lighting events? Any experiences to relate?

No. I haven't been well enough to climb up to my attic to install my ELK-M1G yet. I hope to be able to do it this fall. However, I've discussed it with ELK's engineers.
