For one thing, if you intend to use it with a cable modem make sure it has a high enough bandwidth (mine is 5-1100 MHz). Standard CATV bandwidth requirements are lower.

How do you tell a good one from a low performing one? Rat Shack vice Kmart vice Home Club?


Some cable companies will give you good ones so you don't use garbage that screws up your neighbor's signal.
