Sonicwall 2040 can't block MSN Messenger 4.7

Dear all,



I have a Sonicwall firewall 2040 with IPS. But I fail to block MSN Messenger 4.7 even I have enable every IM item on the IPS which can block higher version MSN Messenger. Would you give me some advice how to succeed to block it?

Can't speak for the firewall itself 2 things I would do:

  1. block all traffic outbound with destination port 1863
  2. If you host your own internal DNS server for your users, create a DNS zone for msgr.hotmail.com and then create a A record for msgr.hotmail.com to 0.0.0.0
