EDFA gain

Hi all, Does anyone know how and why EDFA gain tilt is wavelength dependant ? thanks

It comes from the interaction of the electron levels of the erbium ions with the glass host, the breaking up of the quantum degeneracies, the density of states, and the oscillator strengths. Even the location in wavelength of the typical "peak and plain" features of an EDFA will also depend on the glass. You can find out more on Wikipedia and the online laser encylcopedia at rp-photonics.com
