I have 2 dell poweredge 5448 switches. What would be the best way to connect them for performance

Did they rename their switch line from PowerConnect? Nope, you used the server name by mistake.

Okay, it's a 48-port switch, and all the ports are gig-E. Pick a port on each, and run a network cable in between the two of them. It does claim to support link aggregation, so if you can spare the ports, you could experiment with using that with some additional cables, but a lot of the Dell managed switch features are "iffy" at best. Lots of testing is in order before you trust it for production work.
