Nov 17, 2006 1 Replies

Hey everyone.

kind of new the the whole vlan config.

My end goal is have have two vlans on a 2908xl switch that will go to one dhcp server to hand out ip address to all computers hooked into the

2908xl.

My setup is as follows.

The dhcp server is on fa4/0 on my 7205 router.

the switch (a 2908xl) is connected on fa4/1 on the 7205 router.

i have two vlans on the 2908xl router.

***vlan config on 7205***

vLAN id: 1 (IEEE 802.q encapsulation) vLAN trunk int fa4/1.1

192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0

vLAN id: 2 (IEEE 802.q encapsulation) vLAN trunk int fa4/1.2

10.10.1.2 255.255.255.0

***end vlan config on 7205***

***vlan config on 2908xl***

vlan1

192.168.1.2 255.255.255.0 helper-address 192.168.0.2 (dhcp server static address).

vlan2

10.10.1.2 255.255.255.0 helper-address 192.168.0.2 (dhcp server static address).

***end vlan config on 2908xl***

No matter what I do I can not get the 7205 to see the 2908xl on either of it's vlan address. No matter what I do i can not get the 2908xl to see the 7205 on either of it's vlan address.

I can ping the 2908xl's vlan addres's from the 2908xl. I can pint the 7205 vlan's addres's from the 7205.

It just getting them to talk is the issue.

Can you guys help?

I do not see a trunk port on the 2908xl for both vlans.

regards, kc
