Upgrade 6509 from CATOs to IOS

All:

I have a Cisco 6509 running CatOS. I would like upgrade to the newest IOS... Below is my configuration. Do I need to change the Supervisor module and the MSFC? Any help is appreciated.

As long as you have an MSFC, you should be fine. See documentation at the link below which lists Sup1s without any further indication of an issue.

Bear in mind you will probably have to upgrade the memoey.

I converted 2 x 6509's last year and I needed to buy larger DRAM for the supervisor modules(128 -> 256MB), larger DRAM for the MSFC's (64

-> 128MB) and bigger ATA cards (24 -> 64MB).

Cisco prices are extremely high, we ended up purchasing 2nd hand (refurbished) items as they were 1/3 of the price.

And 3rd party equivilent memory is probably 1/10th or better the cost (depending on item. MEM-MSFC-128MB= list is $2400, you can get this third party for $100, and that probably is still high).

Just has to do with comfort level...

... and whether your maintainer will support you with 3rd party hardware installed (if that's an issue for you).
