Oversize packets

Jul 14, 2005 2 Replies

We have an issue between a Catalyst Switch and a 3Com Switch. Everithing seem fine, the users and network speed are ok, but we start seeing "oversize packets" in the 3Com. The oversize counter in the 3Com switch that connects to the Catalyst is growing. We change the 3Com and the Cisco (originally was a 4503 and then we change it to a 2950) with the same results. The 3Com is 3300XM. The port is a 802.1q trunk with 3 vlans (default and 2 more).

Any ideas,

It's possible that there's a compromised machine on that segment sending the oversize packets to cause a SYN-ACK response from the target. Since you've changed out both pieces of equipment, it might be time to look at what's attached to said pieces of equipment. best of luck! russ

I did the experiment in our Lab, just a couple of PCs. After generating some traffic between PCs, the errors appeared. It was between a 3Com 3300XM and a Catalyst 2950.

We checked other connections of other 3Coms 3300XM to other gear (Enterasys) are the errors was there too. It seems that 3Com have issues with these boxes. I hate them any way.
