hi..... actually.....how do catalyst switches distinguish igmp control trafiic from multicast data traffic? plaese explain.... thanks in advance ! !

IGMP is IP protocol 2. Multicast data is often carried in UDP (IP protocol 17).
See rfc 1700 (which is obsolete but for sure 2 and
17 have not been re-assigned) section "Assigned Internet Protocol Numbers".
