nbar and flowscan

Hi all,

Sorry for my lame question, but I am completely lost. I am trying to understand the difference between NetFlow and NBAR. What are these protocols used for? Do they serve the same purpose? Is one better than the other? Please help me out.

Thanks, Aleu

Hi,

In short terms (maybe too short), NBAR can be used to dynamically classify traffic on a router (for QoS Policing for example) whilst NetFlow can be used for Accounting and security auditing, etc.

You can find plenty of documentation on the Cisco website about both these features.
