How to test Spanning tree protocol

Jul 28, 2006 2 Replies

Hi

Can anyone help me in testing the spanning tree protocol?

Thanks and regards, F Joe Gladston

Hi.

If you connect two switches by two cables only one of this will function. To check if a connection is functioning you can:

- check the color of light on switch (yellow means that the connection is not used because of spanning tree, green means that the connection is used)

- do a show interface to read if interface is used or not.

I hope to helped you.

Bye, Maurizio

Also the 'show spanning-tree ?' commands are helpful. There's a lot of detail available. I'd look at 'show spanning-tree summary' first, followed by 'active', and finally 'blockedports'.
