Help with Vlan ??

Hello Mr Morris As you have seen I have a router rack network switch and router lab. I am trying to create a vlan though the entire Cisco Catalyst 3200, Catalyst 1900 and Cisco 3011(2503) rack. Each device is connected though the serial port of the [Catalyst 3200 Cisco 3011(2503)] switch. none of the Switch instructions are clear on how to construct a vLan though the switch router [Cisco 3011(2503)] serial port. Can you give me some direction on how to accomplish this??

Hi Howard,

I think what you want is not possible.

VLAN's are a function of Ethernet. They use bytes of the ethernet header to identify traffic. The serial ports on the Cisco devices you have are not ethernet and can therefore not be assigned properties of an ethernet connection.

Any why would you need virtual LANs when the serial links create seperate true (IE. non virtual) LANs.
