Flow control and multicast or broadcast traffic

Aug 07, 2006 0 Replies

Hi all,

What happen in this case :

- Flow Control is enabled on the client (windows) and server (solaris)

- The clients and server are connected to the cisco switch 2950

- The cisco switch 2950 seem not support Flow control on Fast Ethernet interface

- The server send data by multicast (or broadcast) traffic to the client

The flow control do PAUSE communication btw clients and server. But how it possible to do PAUSE when server send data to the clients by multicast or broadcast ?

For multicast and Broadcast traffic, it seem not possible to use Flow Control. Is-it true ?

If not, how it's done ? If it's true, how slowest client in the multicast group (or broadcast) manage the traffic received ?

ThankYou very much

Best Regards Rahan
