1605 lost carrier error

Hi,

I'm trying to get an old 1605-r up and running. However, I keep getting

1d02h: %QUICC_ETHER-1-LOSTCARR: Unit 0, lost carrier. Transceiver problem? 1d02h: %QUICC_ETHER-1-LOSTCARR: Unit 0, lost carrier. Transceiver problem? 1d02h: %QUICC_ETHER-1-LOSTCARR: Unit 0, lost carrier. Transceiver problem? 1d02h: %QUICC_ETHER-1-LOSTCARR: Unit 0, lost carrier. Transceiver problem?

When e1 is connected via crossover to a switch, link light blinks intermittently. e0's link is solid with the same.

I've tested with a loopback plug, no link. e0 is solid with loopback plug.

My boss says it's a firmware issue, but: 1) I can't find anything on cisco's site about a firware upgrade for the 1605-r (it's end of life as of 200508) and 2) I think it's simply a hardware issue.

Thoughts, opinions, advice greatly appreciated.
