RIP Error

Hi folks. On my little test lab at home I have the following (I think standard) practice setup:

W2K Prof -> 1900 Switch -> 2501 Router -> 2501 router -> 1900 Switch ->

W2k Server.

When I run "debug IP RIP" I receive the following message:

RIP: ignored v1 update from bad source 192.168.2.254 on Ethernet0

That's the terminal monitor output of router 1 (192.168.0.253) complaining about something on the E0 interface on router 2.

Router 2 has the same message, but from the other side:

RIP: ignored v1 update from bad source 192.168.0.254 on Ethernet0

Any thoughts? My guess would be the Windows machines sending out RIP updates themselves.

Thanks,

If the .253 and .254 are E0 interface addresses, it sounds like you need to partition your 1900's better. The RIP updates are leaking through.

Hi. Router1 has E0 = 192.168.0.254, S0=192.168.1.253 Router2 has S0 = 192.168.1.254, E0= 192.168.2.254

What do the configs look like?

Which means that R1's RIP updates are being seen by R2 and vice versa.

Secondary addresses on interfaces.

Add a no verify update source to ignore.
