Again, for those of you that can't understand because of "code overload", a lot of people aren't into writing drivers. If you think that Linux is such a good deal, then you write drivers for those of us that have REAL work to do on a computer so we can get our jobs done and feed our children!

That all sounds wonderful, but how much did att the silicon and chrome cost? In a lot of cases, it's not cost effective to invest in that much hardware vs the COO (cost of ownership) and ROI (return on investment) that the average businessman or student would half to make to achieve a certain level of computing.

Once again, a member of the "smarter-then-thou" group has spoken! Unfortunately, there are many intelligent humans that struggle to learn how to use a PC at their desk, in their cubicle, at the office so that they can just do their meager job and go home to their families. Not everybody need to be a "geek" just to use a PC. Try to understand that simple fact.

Yugggggh! McDonalds has it's place...I can't go to Ruth's Chris or Morton's on my 1/2-hr lunch break. But, I can go to McDonalds and get a Caesars salad and some iced tea for a very reasonable price in a very reasonable amount of time. The same holds true of the WinTel group. I can balance my checkbook, read my email, and print my digital pictures. I don't need a VAX or a Powerbook to do that, and that is all a huge group of humanity want for their computers to do!

You need to take some computer classes if you are experiencing that sort of problem. I have almost the same setup and the whole system went together like butter. No wonder you hate the WinTel group so much - it to simple for you to master. Not enough registers and loops to play with.

No, D-Link can't write a f****ng driver for their product that will actually function with their product on XP. The reinstall-reboot- lather-rinse-repeat remedy of PeeCee troubleshooting didn't correct this issue.

As for the NETGEAR, there is no interference robustness setting/cap- ability. Turns out that a neighbor with a PeeCee and a wireless was offering an adhoc connection. Inferior hardware/software could not show this at the time and was only evident as I took my wireless net- work (2 WAPs with 7.5dBi gain antennae in a house with a 50'x30' foot- print). Hard to believe that it couldn't discern the stronger signal but that was the issue. Simply changing everything to run on channel

Well, then you missed the point. I'm sure that one or the other fast food place will satisfy your palate in a pinch - maybe In-n-out or Wendy's then. The point isn't that Windoze is totally inedible, just not our favorite cup of tea.

Where did I say VMS was cheap ? I said Windoze was cheap (and designed by some of the same people that designed VMS if I remember correctly). I've used VMS, but prefer UNIX for the most part. There were one or two nice features that UNIX could borrow (async IO completion etc).

While I can appreciate your viewpoint, back around 15 or so years ago, I made my first trip to Dell Taco. I've never gone back since and don't plan on ever going back. I will go to McDs or BK, but prefer In-n-out or Wendy's for burgers and Taco Bell for Mexican fast food. But having the time, I would opt for some of the local Mexican food restaurants or even Mission Burrito. But we're getting off the real subject aren't we.

I don't really (unless he liked the food and just wasn't going back because of getting sick). That would be like not getting back on the horse after being tossed. There's just too much out there to go back to something you find distasteful.

Your approach to life must deprive you of many rewarding experiences, not that I place visits to McDonald's in that category, but I question your approach to bad experiences.

VMS isn't cheap. At least, that's been the argument as to why people do not use it and or went to alternatives. The problem is, you get what you pay for. A robust and secure OS VMS is but it's not priced like Weendoze that's for sure.

I suggest that Windows is by far the most usable, and effective OS I have used in 40 years of computing. Is it perfect, hardly. Does it get the job done, yes. For what it does, and for how many use it for productive work, and for how easy it is to get something done, there isn't anything to contend with it.

I too no longer ride motorcycles, having given it up when I made the choice between running into the back of a pickup, or sliding under it... Fortunately, my injuries were slight.

Emperor Bill hired Dave Cutler who was an architect of early digital equip- ment corp. OSs and instrumental in early VMS development. That he is there in Micro$oft is more of a token to try to give credibility to the crap that they output more than it is to put it on the right track.

I didn't like that thing they called a hamburger. Bleachk. Getting sick atop of that experience helped to seal my decision not to frequent these establishments in the future.

I'd been using computers long before Micro$oft outputted Weendoze (touted as an OS by some). I crash my computers everyday when I'm developing code. At least with these systems, there's something I can learn from the crash with analysis tools. Not so in Weendoze world.

You learn to avoid somethings that are bad experiences. For example, I do not ride motorcycle after being T-boned by a car that ran a stop sign and caused me 34 broken bones and nearly the loss of my leg. I spent 2+ full years in a full leg cast and I even started my college career with plaster, steel pins and screws, and crutches. I no longer ride motorcycles. This experience doesn't or hasn't precluded me from, for example, flying an air- plane.

Weendoze is s**te. It is what it is and stop trying to make it more than it is. In the end, when you can't make a valid argument for it you resort to maligning me with innuendo the likes of which is quoted directly above.
