Octect format in 3GPP

I have to send information in SMS network in octect format.Can somebody give me a link on octect format in Telecom and how to convert integers and alphabets to octects.

When you say octets, what are you really trying to send? If it's just plain text then the characters are seven bits long, packed into octets.

The character set and mapping into octets are both explained in 3GPP 23.038. The overall SMS message structure is in 3GPP 23.040. Both are available for free at

Thnx.I got the answer.Actually there was a typo.It should be octet instead od octet. I also found this site which u may find useful in future.
