Cisco SRP 527W

The hardware itself seems nice enough, if a little warm in use, but even with the latest firmware on [1.01.11] it's got a distinctly 'beta' feel to it. For example, if you want to use one of the ethernets as a WAN, you have to disable the DSL interface [which is annoying enough in itself], but this will wipe the rest of the config from the router!

Interesting features for a router at this price point include GRE, CDP and a TFTP server.

It's possible to create port forwards to internal hosts, but there doesn't seem to be any way to control what IPs on the internet are allowed in. This is a bit of a disappointment given that routers costing less than 1/3 the price can do this without fuss.

The interface for managing the SIP ATA has been cut and pasted straight from an old Sipura device, and there are quite a few elements in the web interface that are strongly reminiscent of a cheap'n'nasty Level1 WBR3460. The lack of a CLI is a disappointment - there's an SSH server listening, but the none of the credentials work.

Inevitably it's running Linux inside, so I'm hopeful that some third-party mods will pitch up for it, because the hardware is willing, but the firmware is weak.
