WiFi Router w/Print Server without Internet connection?

Nov 28, 2005 3 Replies

I need to setup a wireless print server at a location that currently doesn't have an Internet connection but may in the future. Rather than buying two boxes (a stand-alone WiFi print server for now & a Wifi Router later when the Internet is available) will a Router with a built-in print server work?

Any particular models/manufactuers, or just the usual suspects? Will I need to disable any of the router functions such as DCHP or anything to make this setup fly?

Thanks in advance !!!!

Internet access is irrelevant to your internal network. Just set it up as if the router were connected to a modem. (The situation will be the same as a system with Internet access when the modem is turned off).

Note that the SMC router/USB print server is on sale for $55 after rebate, see "

" This is one of the few routers that can simultaneously be connected with WEP and WPA security, which can be a useful feature in some circumstances.
