Start your own WiFi hotspot?

I've googled and found companies that are willing to sell complete solutions, but I couldn't find any information for DIY hotspots.

What does it take to get started?

I'm assuming the following:

  1. A business class internet account, probably cable modem or FiOS if available. I've seen business accounts go for about 0 or so a month.
  2. A router - probably something more than your typical Best Buy deal of the week.
  3. A computer to keep track of the accounting (assuming I'm going to charge for usage).

Would I need anything else?

What would I need to protect myself from illegal use? Say for example someone downloading pirated materials or surfing for kiddy p*rn?

It was FYI as it is your site. If you'd rather not have the data fine by me.

Thanks, but it actually says the link is currently broken, and gives other links that do work. you must not have spent much time on it. ;)
