Question on Linksys Router WRT54G or WRT54GS Hardware version.

Sep 01, 2006 5 Replies

I contacted Linksys with little success.

I have a Speedbooster Router that is a version 4 model (as can be seen next to the model number under the unit).

The latest version out is a version 6. I can get one of these free and swap my version 4 for a version 6. (Again talking about HW version, not SW binary version of firmware).

Anyone know the difference between version 4 and version 6?

Thank you Patty

Why the swap? See the wikipedia page for hardware version info:

If you're not using it for anything other than what the stock firmware provides then it might not matter. But if you wanted to use a 3rd party firmware for added features then it's best to stick with version 4 or earlier units.

Hi, That's foolish thing to do for various reasons.

Which if you're not going to explain is likewise foolish.

It's not foolish to not explain them if you don't know what they are. ;^)
