Because I am having trouble with access to my wireless in the far reaches of the house, I purchased an Access Point (D-Link DWL-2000AP). I programmed the device to operate in "Access Point" mode and gave it the correct Gateway with no DHCP. The remote computer sees it but can NOT acquire an address. If I connect it to a wire, it works fine. Maybe I am mistaken but I thought that the AP would pick up the signal from the wireless router and relay it to the computer.
