From EDN magazine Ideas for Design: Low-cost RF sniffer finds 2.4-GHz sources.

The input filter can be cannibalized from any Wi-Fi device with a ceramic bandpass filter near the antenna.

I have one of the first generation Zap Checkers (when they were being sold at electronics flea markets).

've seen these modified with a switch and SMA for external antenna use. It seems to me adding a filter would turn the zap checker into a wifi sniffer.
