Just in case this has not been posted to USENET yet.

There is a very long thread about the issue.

The 3.0 update plagues some Apple iPhone 3G users with both of the following conditions.

No Wi-Fi Bluetooth Unavailable

Apparently it also has to do with short battery life that I and several posters in that thread are experiencing.

This issue is not to be confused with poor Wi-Fi connection speed, the problem is that Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are totally unavailable.

Took my iPhone to the Apple store and they replaced it with a new (white box) unit. They said it was more likely the hardware than the update process that caused the failure. Updated the firmware right there in the store. Besides the wasted time and a screen protector, apparently everything is okay now.

By the way... Anyone who has not done the update and is still under warranty should IMO go ahead and do it. If it is a hardware problem and you have bad unit, the next update might not fix the problem and your warranty might have expired.
