USB hardware phones for softphones?

Hi All,

Can the Skype hardware phones with USB interface be used with other softphones besides Skype's?

Alternativelly, are there other similar phones that would work with most softphones? (I'm interested in "standalone" Voip hardware phones

- I find them too expensive ...)
