Sometimes when someone hangs up on the other end, and I remain on the line, the phone pulses about 8 times, one long pulse (with dark keypad) then returns to dial tone. I know the long pulse is very common, but what is the purpose of the rapid pulses?
A little more info, please: Are you talking about a home or business phone directly connected to the outside phone line, or one in a commercial system? If the former, what is the areacode/prefix? If the latter, what kind of system?
If you let us know, we might be able to come up with a specific explanation...
