Who's to say that the same thing might happen with the deal that Verizon made with Fairpoint Communications up in New England.

I don't think the same thing will happen in New England, first Fairpoint is a telephone operating company, the regulators in those states made both Verison and Fairpoint agree to things. One must also know that th Verizon Wireline network and Wireless are two different companies, though Verizon does own 51% of the cellular company. I don't know what happened in Hawaii since Verizon sold it, but I know the company before the sale was starting to upgrade, maybe Carlyle did not have the funds to continue or maybe they had planned to drain the company. Look at what happened to Rochester Telephone.
