Gig Harbor residents will have to get used to writing their street addresses without the familiar "NW."
The city is lopping off the "Northwest" designator to avoid confusing the county's increasingly automated 911 system.

In my city, major buildings often had their address as a street intersection, i.e. "Main & Walnut St". But now they're converted to a street address, i.e. "559 Main St".
I suspect GPS and the post office also are happy with this change.
***** Moderator's Note *****I was in charge of E911 in New England for a time, and I was always amazed at how many problems duplicate street names and/or numbers caused.
