These days VoIP providers don't even provide any operator services.

What about 00?
Last time I needed this, 0 was for the local exchange operator and 00 got you to the operator for your LD carrier.
I think that's where the savings on VoIP really kick in. There's no

As some folks have found out. Cheaper is many times just that. Less of everything. :)
