ITU approves new energy-efficiency standard [telecom]

SHENZEN, CHINA -- Recently, the Site Energy Efficiency (SEE) proposed by Huawei has been approved by the International Telecom Union (ITU), and ITU-T L.1350: Energy Efficiency Metrics of Base Station Site has officially become the international standard for the field of telecom energy. After two years of serious debates and repeated demonstration, the standard has finally been established. The standard will provide telecom and tower operators with a sound basis for selecting highly efficiently integrated solutions for their sites, better evaluate the energy efficiency of their existing networks, formulate more effective energy efficiency improvement plans, and carry out energy conservation and emission reduction.

With the continuous development of digitization and the rapid growth of the telecom services, the ICT industry is under more and more pressure to increase revenues and reduce energy consumption. Lowering energy costs is one of the most important measures for operators to sustain or increase profits.
