Inaguration cell phone service [telecom]

FWIW: Several friends who attended the Inauguration reported that Verizon cell phones still worked, but AT&T cell phones did not.

Would anyone know of how cell phone service responded to the huge crowds that day, either by anectote or actual statistics?
