built this new puter today and cant get used to it...started to post something then got lost in XP .... getting old i guess.

it's sooo cutsey downloaded all the service packs/updates before loading anything else...so far so good. my other machine sitting right next to it looks like a dinosaur already and its only been half a day

Yeah, but when you finally download the 80 megs of patches and fixes for XP, it'll screw up OE so the computer will lock up. No blue screen of death. Instead you do choose end task and it'll disconnect the modem and dump you to the desktop. In between somewhere, it'll ask you if you want to tell Billy Gates about the Windoze error. Click on "Don't Send" because I don't think they'll ever fix the problem.

After you get used to XP you'll love it....... It's really stable, Nooooooooooo BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH........

You should download and run the memory tester from the MS website. Most "freezes" and errors (in XP Pro and 2000 at least) are caused by faulty RAM. We stopped buying "Samsung" memory for that reason and settled on Kingston. It's more expensive, but it's worth it!!

That will still give me 3 years before it's really ready! :-)

Don't spend a lifetime learning XP.....Vista is the new Windows OS coming out next year......

No Microsoft states it will be out next year which means it'll be at least 2 years from now

My dear Roberto I have here 3 puter under xp and one of those is a laptop with 384 meg or ram on a PIII 800 Celeron..the other puter are all P4 with at least 512 meg (2.4 GHz and 3.2)

its rock steady no bleu screen and running pretty good...

the only thing I do took be sure its stay like that is passing Hijackthis.exe on the machine every week to be sure to remove all the s*it we can catch while surfing and installing small software..

better check what's on the machine you trouble with....

As far as I know it's clean. I have all the usual pop-up stoppers, spyware cleansers, I don't download free crap, I have the latest firewall and anti-virus plus a few extras. It only locks up with OE. Perhaps changing to another mail handler might be the answer. My machine is a 1.7 G with 512 Meg ram, state of the art latest and greatest, two 80 gig hard drives. Ran fine until I installed Service Pak 2. Then the ship hit the fan. I downloaded the memory checker and I'll run that.

How does that compare to Ad-Aware and Spybot? I'm running both. Will the Microsoft program work with the other two installed?

microsoft has an anti spyware that you can use free and it updates automatically. can download it from their website.
